Malaysian Development Corporation Engages Trade Ministry on Halal Ecosystem Development

A delegation from the Malaysia Development Corporation, led by H.E. Syed Nauzer Idid bin Syed Yusoff Idid, Chargé d’Affaires of the Malaysian High Commission, has engaged the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry to explore collaboration on developing a Halal Ecosystem for the country.
The meeting, forms part of efforts to formally engage the Ministry on the Halal Ecosystem Development Project, an initiative aimed at building a credible Halal industry in Ghana, attracting investment, and advancing the country’s vision of becoming the Halal hub for West Africa.

The visit also marked another step in deepening bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Malaysia, particularly in promoting standards that drive competitiveness in global trade.

Speaking during the engagement, the leader of the Malaysian delegation Sheikh Salma Mohammed Alhasan, Chairman of Board of Governors, Bereau of Halal Certification  Ghana emphasized the importance of Ghana’s entry into the global Halal market. “Ghana is strategically positioned to serve as the Halal hub for West Africa. Through this partnership, we hope to share Malaysia’s experience in building a strong and credible Halal certification system, while opening new investment channels between our two countries,” he said.

Discussions also centered on Ghana’s pathway to securing international Halal recognition through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia. Such recognition, the delegation noted, would significantly boost the credibility and marketability of Ghanaian Halal-certified products internationally.

Sheikh Salma Mohammed Alhasan also highlighted opportunities for Ghana to deepen its participation in the global Halal economy by attending the upcoming Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2025), scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur from 17th to 20th September. “We are inviting Ghana to participate in MIHAS 2025, which brings together key players in the global Halal industry.

This will be an opportunity for Ghana to showcase its products, network with international stakeholders, and attract valuable partnerships,” he added.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, the Chief Director Mr. Noah Tumfo welcomed the initiative, adding that the project aligns with Ghana’s strategic objectives.

“The development of a robust Halal ecosystem is not only about certification, but also about unlocking trade and investment opportunities for Ghanaian businesses. We are committed to positioning Ghana as the preferred Halal hub in West Africa, and this collaboration with Malaysia is a critical step towards that goal,” he stated.

The Chief Director assured the delegation that Ghana will actively explore avenues to take part in the international showcase, reiterating government’s commitment to strengthening trade and investment partnerships with Malaysia and beyond.
