TRADE MINISTER INAUGURATES NEW GEPA BOARD, ANNOUNCES PRESIDENTIAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON EXPORTS

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has inaugurated a new Board of Directors for the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), with a charge to advance the nation’s export agenda through strategic collaboration and innovation.
At a ceremony held in Accra, the Minister expressed full confidence in the board’s capacity to deliver on its mandate, citing the diverse expertise and experience of its members as critical assets. She highlighted recent policy interventions aimed at creating a more enabling environment for exporters, notably the Bank of Ghana’s decision to extend the export proceeds repatriation window from 60 to 120 days.
"This adjustment provides Ghanaian exporters with much-needed flexibility in managing foreign exchange inflows," she stated, adding that it would ultimately support economic stability and strengthen the cedi. Hon. Ofosu-Adjare also underscored the vital connection between export growth and investment attraction.

Welcoming the CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr. Yaw Afriyie (a newly appointed GEPA board member), she emphasized the importance of institutional collaboration in addressing Ghana’s trade deficit and enhancing global competitiveness. In a major policy announcement, the Minister revealed the establishment of a Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports, aimed at boosting export volumes and strengthening national export capacity.
She noted that a stronger export sector would drive import substitution, reduce pressure on the local currency, and create sustainable economic value.
“The future of Ghana’s economy lies in sustained export-led production. This is how we create jobs, stabilize the currency, and move toward long-term resilience,” she noted.

The newly appointed Chairman of the GEPA Board, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw (MP), pledged the board’s commitment to supporting the government’s strategic priorities, particularly the Agribusiness Export Development Policy and the 24-Hour Economy Program.

He assured the Minister that the board would actively work with partners, especially the GIPC, to deliver measurable outcomes for the export sector.
