MOTAI Leads Ghana to Expo 2025 Osaka Japan to boost bilateral Trade and attract investment to the country

The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry in collaboration with other government agencies has successfully led Ghana to participate in  OSAKA, 2025 EXPO which is currently underway in OSAKA-Japan.
The Expo which is expected to last for six months was opened to the public on Sunday, 13th April 2025, where Ghana’s Pavilion was decorated with the rich and diverse cultural heritage with audio visuals on trade and investment as well as education, ICT and health.
Record indicates that Ghana’s Pavilion was the second most popular pavilion among the shared pavilions. On average, 500 to 1,000 visitors passed through the pavilion from Saturday and Sunday.

The Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi who doubles as the Commissioner General together with Ghana’s Ambassador to Japan Mrs. Genevieve Edna Akpaloo  led Ghana delegation to the official opening ceremony of the Expo, with over 150 participating countries and 50 international organizations.
Trade, Education, ICT, and Agriculture were the main targets for investments. 

  It is also interesting to note that most visitors to Ghana’s pavilion ware interested in Ghana’s Expo stamp, Ghana’s Cocoa and Chocolate, Tourism, Education, and handicrafts, (Beads, Kente Cloth, made in Ghana Bags/Bolga Basket Bags) hundreds of visitors to Ghana’s Pavilion engaged in photo shooting with the Kente Cloth and Beads since the opening of the expo.
Ghana was also featured on Japan National TV (NTV) as well as Osaka TV (ABC News). The Expo is under the main theme: Designing Future Society for Our Lives, with three sub-themes, namely, Saving Lives, Connecting Lives, and Empowering Lives.

 Ghana’s chosen theme is A Country of Possibilities and Empowerment.  The exhibition content for Ghana covers six sectors, including ICT, Education and Manpower Development, Health and Well-being, Trade, Investment and Industrial Transformation, Tourism, and Japanese Official Development Assistance to Ghana.
On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, Hon. Sampson Ahi interacted with the former Head of Mission in Ghana (2009 to 2012) and later Japanese Ambassador to Ghana (2021), H.E. MOCHIZUKI Hisanobu.
Hon. Ahi recalled the cordial relationship between Ghana and Japan in trade, diplomacy, technical assistance, and development cooperation during H.E. MOCHIZUKU’s tenure.

   He indicated that Ghana seeks to showcase the numerous Government economic transformation policies, initiatives, programs, and projects in Health, Education, ICT, Trade, Industry, Investment and Tourism sectors, which aim at creating a country of opportunities, possibilities and empowering individuals, especially the youth to realize their full potential and enrich their livelihood. Further, visitors to the Ghana pavilion will experience the rich and diverse socio-cultural heritage of Ghana. He appreciated the support the Country Manager extended to Ghana in its preparation stages for the expo and asked for the same during the expo.

The Deputy Minister extended his appreciation to the Japanese Government, the Japan Association for the Expo 2025, for inviting Ghana to participate in the Expo, and for the assistance. On the other hand, the Country Manager expressed her gratitude to the Ghana Team for the cooperation enjoyed from the team in executing her responsibilities.

She promised her unflinching support to Ghana during the expo and the expo decommissioning period. One of the proposed activities for the participation is the Ghana Business & Investment Forum slated for 11th September 2025 under the sub-theme “Empowering Lives” and the specific country theme “Creating a Country of Possibilities”.
