
Robert is an Entrepreneur and Investment & Finance Specialists. He is the founder of a number of companies under The Ahomka Group that have businesses in the Investment Advisory Services and Investment Management, Property Development & Management, Opticians & Optical Supplies and Hospitality Industry. His previous role (2007 to 2009) was the CEO for The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC). The GIPC is the government agency established to encourage, promote and facilitate investments in all sectors of the economy. Its objective – working with sister agencies- is to provide investors a one stop shop for all their investment needs. Under his leadership, Ghana recorded in 2008 it’s largest ever level of Foreign Direct Investment in a year at that time. His most recent corporate role was as, Vice President Coca-Cola Africa Group (1999 to 2006).
Robert has spent more than twenty years within the International Banking and Finance sector in Europe, the United States and Africa. As part of the CDC Group / Actis – a private equity institution focussed on emerging global markets – as the Group’s East African Regional Director - Responsible for the origination, analysis and execution of new business in Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Rwanda, Sudan and Seychelles, Robert dealt with all facets of CDC operations, including management of its investments and offices, business development, public affairs, business community issues and government relations. From 1990 to 1995, Robert was an Executive with the NatWest Bank in the United Kingdom, with responsibility for credit risk, project finance, regulation and management, Aerospace lending, corporate and business management, leasing and asset finance.
In terms of Finance Robert has held various positions of management and Board representation on various countries and institutions in Africa including Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Ghana. His most recent role in Ghana included Chairman of the Board of CAL Bank (a publicly listed Bank in Ghana) and Chairman of the Board of Metropolitan Insurance Company. Robert has also served on the World Banks Economic Advisory Councils of 6 African Presidents in Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Mali and Senegal.
Born in Ghana, Robert, who has lived and worked throughout Europe and the African continent, has had extensive experience in his dealings with national and regional governments, the Bretton Woods Institutions and the private sector, across Africa, Europe, Asia and the United States. His special focus was on investment in various sectors in the economies of emerging markets. Robert holds a Bachelors Degree (Honours) in Economics from the University of Sussex (UK). His studies in the School of African and Asian Studies concentrated on Development Economics, Finance, International Relations and Public Finance. He received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Chicago (USA), electing to specialize in Finance, Organizational Management and Change Management. He is married with two children.
