About GhaNAS

In today’s globalized world the sustainable development of countries depends on the exchange of goods and services across borders (i.e. international trade). Consumers however are becoming more and more sophisticated in their choices of what to buy. Consumers these days are demanding high quality, environmentally sustainable and safe products. The assurance of these characteristics in a product is what is provided by conformity assessment bodies through inspection, testing, calibration, certification, validation and verification activities.
The concern of most users of conformity assessment services, however, is how accurate or reliable are the outputs from these testing, inspection, certification, verification or validation activities. This is where accreditation bodies come to provide the assurance of credibility, reliability, impartiality, accuracy, transparency or otherwise of outputs from these conformity assessment activities. For users of conformity assessment activities it is no longer just any certificate or results but it must be accredited certificate or test results.
To promote trade & industry, protect health, safety and the environment the Ghana National Accreditation Service (GhaNAS) has been established to provide accreditation services to conformity assessment bodies. It is a company incorporated under the Companies Act, 1963 (Act 179) with the liability of its members limited by guarantee.
