The attention of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ghana, has been drawn to a publication filed by Favour Nnabugwu in the Business section of the Vanguard Newspaper dated February 17th, 2016 on the above mentioned subject matter.

The said story sought to imply that Ghana has banned or prohibited some Nigerian goods from entry to Ghana as a retributory measure to Nigeria’s action.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ghana therefore wish to state that the Hon. Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Ekwow Spio- Garbrah has not spoken to the said reporter, neither has he made any statement to that effect.

We therefore see your publication as misleading and calculated attempt to drag the names of the Government of Ghana and for that matter the Minister of Trade and Industry into disrepute.

We therefore wish to inform you to retract the story and further apologise to the Government of Ghana and for that matter the Minister of Trade and Industry for such misleading publication.

Let me further assure you that at no point in time have goods from Nigeria or any other country in the sub-region denied access into Ghana.

We however wish to caution that such publications must be cross-checked and verified from authentic sources so as not to jeopardise the relationships between Ghana and Nigeria and for that matter her neighbours.

Kindly retract the said story as a matter of urgency by given it the same prominence as was given your earlier publication.

Thank you.
